Client tips & Reassurance!
đ¸ Client Tips & Reassurance Before Your Photography Session
Before a photoshoot, I often hear the same questions:
âI donât like having my photo taken.â
âWhat should we wear?â
âWhat if the kids donât behave?â
If that sounds familiar, youâre not alone. Itâs completely normal to feel a little nervous before stepping in front of the camera. To help, hereâs a guide with tips and reassurances so you know exactly what to expect when booking a session with me.
1. Choosing the Right Location
Pick somewhere you genuinely enjoy â a place that feels comfortable and familiar.
If youâre worried about people watching, we can arrange a quieter time of day.
Most passersâby wonât even notice us. Honestly, Iâll be the âfunny oneâ with the camera â not you!
2. âI Donât Like My Photo Takenâ
Almost everyone says this at first, and thatâs perfectly normal.
Remember: these photos are for you and your loved ones. They donât have to be shared publicly.
After the first few minutes, youâll relax â Iâll guide you naturally and reassure you along the way.
My style is very natural, so often you wonât even realise Iâm taking the photo.
Sometimes Iâll pause us for a quick shot if I spot great lighting or an idea.
Fun fact: the clients who start off hating photos are often the ones directing me by the end â becoming their own little âdirectorsâ!
3. Clothing Choices
Wear natural colours that complement each other â they always photograph beautifully.
Bold outfits are fine if thatâs your personality, but avoid clashing tones.
Bring extra clothing if youâd like variety â Iâll happily carry the bag!
Weâve all looked back at old photos and thought, âWhat was I wearing?â â so keeping it simple usually works best.
4. Little Ones
As a dad myself, I completely understand that childrenâs attention spans can be short.
Donât worry â the session is about fun, not forcing smiles.
Bring toys, snacks, or anything that helps them feel comfortable.
Iâll happily act silly if it keeps them engaged!
Family shoots with little ones usually last around 45 minutes â plenty of time to capture those genuine moments before theyâve had enough.
5. Research & Preparation
I always research the location beforehand, especially if I havenât been there before.
Iâll check parking, terrain, and lighting so weâre prepared.
If you know something specific about the spot, let me know â it helps us make the most of our time together.
6. Weather
We live in Britain â the weather doesnât always play ball!
If needed, we can reschedule without any stress.
Iâve shot in rain, snow, and sunshine â sometimes those conditions make for the most memorable photos.
7. MakeâUp
Natural tones usually work best, but itâs completely your choice.
These are your photos â wear whatever makes you feel confident.
8. Editing & Photoshop
Every photo is professionally edited.
I wonât change who you are â youâll look great as yourself.
If you have insecurities, talk to me. Weâll work together to highlight your best features and reassure you.
9. Facilities & Practicalities
Some locations donât have the best facilities, so itâs worth preparing beforehand.
Quick toilet break, snacks, water, and coffee (a must!) are always helpful.
I bring my own little stash too⌠though I rarely share my food! đ
10. Communication & Expectations
The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and heard.
If you have ideas, inspiration, or specific shots youâd love, share them with me before or during the session.
Iâll always guide you, but this is a collaboration â your input helps make the photos more personal and meaningful.
If anything feels unclear or youâre unsure, just ask. Iâd rather overâcommunicate than leave you guessing.
Together, weâll make sure the session feels relaxed, fun, and tailored to you.
