Client tips & Reassurance!

📸 Client Tips & Reassurance Before Your Photography Session

Before a photoshoot, I often hear the same questions:
“I don’t like having my photo taken.”
“What should we wear?”
“What if the kids don’t behave?”

If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone. It’s completely normal to feel a little nervous before stepping in front of the camera. To help, here’s a guide with tips and reassurances so you know exactly what to expect when booking a session with me.

1. Choosing the Right Location

  • Pick somewhere you genuinely enjoy — a place that feels comfortable and familiar.

  • If you’re worried about people watching, we can arrange a quieter time of day.

  • Most passers‑by won’t even notice us. Honestly, I’ll be the “funny one” with the camera — not you!

2. “I Don’t Like My Photo Taken”

  • Almost everyone says this at first, and that’s perfectly normal.

  • Remember: these photos are for you and your loved ones. They don’t have to be shared publicly.

  • After the first few minutes, you’ll relax — I’ll guide you naturally and reassure you along the way.

  • My style is very natural, so often you won’t even realise I’m taking the photo.

  • Sometimes I’ll pause us for a quick shot if I spot great lighting or an idea.

  • Fun fact: the clients who start off hating photos are often the ones directing me by the end — becoming their own little “directors”!

3. Clothing Choices

  • Wear natural colours that complement each other — they always photograph beautifully.

  • Bold outfits are fine if that’s your personality, but avoid clashing tones.

  • Bring extra clothing if you’d like variety — I’ll happily carry the bag!

  • We’ve all looked back at old photos and thought, “What was I wearing?” — so keeping it simple usually works best.

4. Little Ones

  • As a dad myself, I completely understand that children’s attention spans can be short.

  • Don’t worry — the session is about fun, not forcing smiles.

  • Bring toys, snacks, or anything that helps them feel comfortable.

  • I’ll happily act silly if it keeps them engaged!

  • Family shoots with little ones usually last around 45 minutes — plenty of time to capture those genuine moments before they’ve had enough.

5. Research & Preparation

  • I always research the location beforehand, especially if I haven’t been there before.

  • I’ll check parking, terrain, and lighting so we’re prepared.

  • If you know something specific about the spot, let me know — it helps us make the most of our time together.

6. Weather

  • We live in Britain — the weather doesn’t always play ball!

  • If needed, we can reschedule without any stress.

  • I’ve shot in rain, snow, and sunshine — sometimes those conditions make for the most memorable photos.

7. Make‑Up

  • Natural tones usually work best, but it’s completely your choice.

  • These are your photos — wear whatever makes you feel confident.

8. Editing & Photoshop

  • Every photo is professionally edited.

  • I won’t change who you are — you’ll look great as yourself.

  • If you have insecurities, talk to me. We’ll work together to highlight your best features and reassure you.

9. Facilities & Practicalities

  • Some locations don’t have the best facilities, so it’s worth preparing beforehand.

  • Quick toilet break, snacks, water, and coffee (a must!) are always helpful.

  • I bring my own little stash too… though I rarely share my food! 😉

10. Communication & Expectations

  • The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and heard.

  • If you have ideas, inspiration, or specific shots you’d love, share them with me before or during the session.

  • I’ll always guide you, but this is a collaboration — your input helps make the photos more personal and meaningful.

  • If anything feels unclear or you’re unsure, just ask. I’d rather over‑communicate than leave you guessing.

  • Together, we’ll make sure the session feels relaxed, fun, and tailored to you.

✅ Quick Checklist Before Your Session

  • Pick a location you love.

  • Don’t worry if you’re camera shy — you’ll relax quickly.

  • Wear natural colours or outfits that complement each other.

  • Bring toys/snacks for little ones.

  • I’ll research the location in advance.

  • Weather changes? We can reschedule.

  • Make‑up is your choice — natural works well.

  • Photos are professionally edited (but you’ll always look like you).

  • Prep for facilities: snacks, water, coffee.
